Concept:
The video project I am working with is derived from the concept of pollutants and toxins that we habitually subject ourselves to repeatedly, sometimes knowing the outcomes, and following through anyway... on a more abstract level, they really relate to anything that can be seen as a contaminant in our everyday life... false hopes, negative thoughts, certain emotions (jealousy, doubt, rage) that can overcome us as a product of poor decisions, etc. It also on a more basic level represents the fact that as a college student I have subjected myself to the ramifications of alcohol, the altered state that results from it, as well as actions taken under the influence of this.
The setting I chose for this is the bathtub because of the cleansing nature usually associated with the bathrooms in general, also, because it is a repeated process performed habitually every day. With using this, I think it is interesting to directly juxtapose pollutants with a place of cleansing.
When viewed, I want the viewers to feel uncomfortable. By facing the imagery produced in the video, it forces the viewer to confront this unsettling situation. I don't feel as though the viewer needs to know any of what it going on to be able to understand the concept, because it is a rather abstract representation of a personal thing. There a few subtleties that give the suggestion of location, but I feel after a certain point the setting becomes irrelevant. Some examples are: the sink drain. the bubbles at the beginning and fluidity of the water, the view upwards shows my body at some points, and part of the video is an extreme closeup of me spitting out the dye into the water.
This is the progress of the video that I have thus far. I really would appreciate any feedback provided because I am torn about some things with my movie.
At the beginning, I use a lot of quick cuts to help emphasize that chaos within the film, but i dont necessarily continue using them towards the end because I want to visually show the resolution of these pollutants/toxins. It becomes more calm... and I like that.
For whatever reason the blogger wouldnt upload my video, so this is the link:

THANKS.

I don't think you need to bring in the personal reference to alcohol. I think the project can stand quite strongly on its own as an abstraction. Like I said in my previous comment on your other post, the audio is successful in that it is uncomfortable and unnerving to have to confront along with the visuals.
ReplyDeleteThere is a scene that happens at 0:34 that needs to be extended slightly or removed. It almost seems like it was left in there unintentionally and doesnt fit the pace of the editing in that segment. Everything else is great.
